Prickly topic...
Was at the big ugly durian aka the esplanade the other day... they finally took down the mess at the tunnel underneath it connecting it to city link... there used to be certain 'art pieces' in red there.... there were old photos of stuff ranging from toys to old chinese families... and all these pictures had red markings all over them... was kinda eerie... think that was the whole idea.... it was just an eyesore... just like the building it's housed in... The art director or whoever's in charge of acquirng these exhibits sure is screwed up...At the end of citylink, there's this walkway with exhibits behind glass panels on the left...The Exhibits: a bunch of 'artistic' dudes place household objects on the floor and smear paint on the wall or hang drapes all over.... and call it art...don't know how much they pay these cons.... you just lay some trash on the floor or hang it on the wall... just make sure they all stick to a certain colour scheme... then you get some good lighting and.... and there you have it.... modern art....With alil bit of lighting and a knack for picking stuff that has the same colour (probly picked this up in kindergarten).... you can turn everyday objects with no artistic value whatsoever into pieces of art... bravo to Osram...I'll bring along my cam wherever i go now...try to rem...Who came up with the idea for the esplanade? was he trying to replicate the Sydney opera house? you have to admit that the spikes on the big durian do look like miniature S.O.Hs from an angle... I think the only good point, pun intended, of the esplanade is Gluttons bay.... and even the food there's just moderate...... Liked the hokkien noodle though.... lotsa thick egg infused gravy...mmm.... |
