Prickly topic...

Was at the big ugly durian aka the esplanade the other day... they finally took down the mess at the tunnel underneath it connecting it to city link... there used to be certain 'art pieces' in red there.... there were old photos of stuff ranging from toys to old chinese families... and all these pictures had red markings all over them... was kinda eerie... think that was the whole idea.... it was just an eyesore... just like the building it's housed in... The art director or whoever's in charge of acquirng these exhibits sure is screwed up...At the end of citylink, there's this walkway with exhibits behind glass panels on the left...The Exhibits: a bunch of 'artistic' dudes place household objects on the floor and smear paint on the wall or hang drapes all over.... and call it art...don't know how much they pay these cons.... you just lay some trash on the floor or hang it on the wall... just make sure they all stick to a certain colour scheme... then you get some good lighting and.... and there you have it.... modern art....With alil bit of lighting and a knack for picking stuff that has the same colour (probly picked this up in kindergarten).... you can turn everyday objects with no artistic value whatsoever into pieces of art... bravo to Osram...I'll bring along my cam wherever i go now...try to rem...Who came up with the idea for the esplanade? was he trying to replicate the Sydney opera house? you have to admit that the spikes on the big durian do look like miniature S.O.Hs from an angle... I think the only good point, pun intended, of the esplanade is Gluttons bay.... and even the food there's just moderate...... Liked the hokkien noodle though.... lotsa thick egg infused gravy...mmm....

Repulse Bay

Read in the news...
Hong Kong: Beaches at Repulse Bay and Deep Water Bay, adverstised as tourist attractions, were awash with trash...

Artsy Fartsy ppl stink...

The art scene is just full of it these days... Caught the news the other day... there was this chinese-caligraphy-art-exhibition thingy going on... Apparently a bunch of so called chinese caligraphers were exhibiting their 'modern chinese art'... It was just black paint splashed on white paper! -_-" These days... you can just crumple a piece of paper, stick it to canvas and pass it off as a masterpiece... In the exhibition, they gave live demonstrations of their 'art' in the making... They got models to spin around as they smeared paint on them... wth... my grandpa could have done the same... dip brush in paint... raise brush to model's while sarong... dip brush in paint... shake head and giggle at how dumb this is...

It was totally absurd! Anyone in his right mind would consider it utterly ridiculous... bet those so called 'artists' are just a bunch of losers who got the brilliant idea of staging that crap in the name of modern art so they could rip off all the lame brained rich art collecting fags who are so easily influenced... they're like shoppers who just go for brand name and disregard quality... can't believe those con artists actually got media coverage… what’s worse is that they got kids in the act! They got a bunch of kids to try their hand at modern Chinese art… they got them brushes and the paper and just let them go wild… have you any idea how much damage you’re inflicting on those kids minds? You’re teaching them post modernity or whatever philosophy’s the rage now… and at such a young age they’ll grow up with the understanding that one can be successful without working hard… bet if you swapped the kid’s work for the ‘masterpieces’, none would notice…

What’s wrong with people these days? We’re just bending our mentality to accept all this rubbish for the sake of being accepted by the western society as a ‘modernized city’???
We don’t HAVE an art heritage! We’re just starting out!… They had dudes who climbed ladders to paint ceilings of churches… they had dudes who painted, sculpted and invented at the same time… they have sculptures with limbs falling off… wait till the merlion requires concrete surgery and then we MIGHT have the slightest reason to consider it part of our art heritage… but meanwhile, come up with something worthwhile to even take a glance at… those dudes in the west who come up with all that post-modern-expressionist-crap are probably well aware that their country’s capacity for proper art appreciation has reached it’s limit and have resorted to brain washing the richer upper class into believing they’ve found a new form of eye candy that’s fit for showing off in one’s living room…

It’s such a twisted but lucrative scheme… it’s easy too… you get born into an affluent influential family (first part involves a whole lotta luck) …. Then you get some diploma in art… doesn’t matter where you graduate from… but judging from your background, it ought to be some big shot artsy fartsy school… unless you’re some blatant imbecile who can’t tell a paintbrush from one of those bbq buttering brushes… Then after all that hard work comes the easy part… you get your rich-influential-public speaker of a daddy to hold some fancy banquet to unveil a collection of your finest art pieces done just 15 minutes prior to the banquet… he manages to fool them into believing that those coffee stains at the top and bite marks at the corners are all part of the masterpieces… they buy a few pieces coz… 1) They think it’ll make em look ‘down’ wit the other millionaire art fashion dudes… 2) They wanna show off their spending power to some chic at the party… 3) The retards actually think the shit might go with their living room/s… after all THAT you make it big… unless of course u can’t keep up with the great demands of being a modern artist… all that spilling of coffee and canvas biting sure is taxing…

Symptoms

She just left for Australia 12 hours ago and the symptoms are kicking in. I feel emptiness, lonliness, the inability to take care of myself. It's the feeling you get when you end up in a different class from your best friend in primary school. You don't know who you can rely on, you wish you could have a change of class, you wonder if you'll stay best friends, whether you'll make new ones, whether you'll fit in, whether either of you will change, whether you'll be remembered, whether you'll stay sane, who will hold your hand when you line up in twos and whether the new bloody chinese teacher will scold you if you can't do your bloody chinese homework.

She's going to study there for 2 yrs. If God permits, she'll do her honours, 2 yrs of working, followed by masters. And if she's still not sick of studying, a doctorate... although i'm not really sure what girls are gonna do with a masters degree... let alone a PhD.. In my opinion, after marriage, they're supposed to be homemakers in the morning, loyal supporters of Days Of Our Lives in the afternoon and shoppers in the evenings. If they wanna get a job, fine... nobody should complain about extra income... but once there's a kid in the picture, she should quit and devote herself to raising him. Then the degrees would have been a waste... unless she doesn't mind freelance work at home... You study for 27+ yrs of your life and then work for a couple of yrs before you get a kid... NOT a good investment... They should just quit after the bach deg or even the Os... can't skip sec sch... can't skip the home econs... vital for women and guys who are gonna stay single their whole life...

Don't know what i'm gonna do now. Got a grad ceremony tmr and plan on wearing something new for the occasion. But with my shopping companion thousands of miles away, what am i to do... The situation sucks. The thought of entering the army in less than 2 mnths time sucks just as bad... I know how important it is and all... the military training... the exercising... the adaption to new types of 'food'... but naturally, i don't want any of it... who wants to get shouted at at the break of dawn? I got enough of that from bloody chinese teachers... who wants to mix with ah bengs who smoke more than they breathe and have a wider vocab of hokkien curses at their disposal than of the english language... The 20 click marchers shouldn't bother me much... shopping along orchard road on a daily basis has prepared me for that...

Gonna miss her so much. Heart aches whenever i think bout it... Gonna be so bored now too... Can't believe i'm actually looking forward to school after NS... when all this will be over... her whole family will have probly immigrated there by then... i'd visit once in awhile... but then at least i'd have something back here to keep me busy... and stressed bout... from now till NS, i'll try to stay sane... at least i've still got my niv, mp3, mtv, cpu and tft... and her sms... got to prepare for sat's cg... Communication's the topic.... not sure if i'm up to it... once again wishing my best friend were here to help me with it...
